The other day one of my Facebook friends updated her status with something that made me snicker. She said something to the effect of, “I wish I was a stay-at-home mom so my house would be clean all the time!”
If you are a SAHM like me, you may be laughing with me right now because we know that isn’t the case. Especially if you have little ones and/or homeschool. Unless your kids all go to school all day and you are home alone, your house is probably a little less than tidy because people are home to make messes. It’s clean enough though, right?
Anyway, this got me thinking about how we tend to imagine that our circumstances would be different if our situations were different or we were living in a different season of life. It’s that whole “the grass is greener on the other side” mentality. I am certainly guilty of this and I’m sure you are too…
What we really need to do when our imagination gets the better of us is:
- Consider the blessing of our current situation.
- Thank God.
- Move on.
We would be so much more joyful if we stopped imagining away the circumstances we had now and started appreciating the moment we are in.
Okay, off my soapbox now!
