I’ve had quite a few people mention that they don’t know how I manage to keep up with a blog, write books, take care of my family and keep my house fairly clean without going crazy. First of all, if you don’t think I get stressed out, then you don’t know me very well. I definitely have my moments… That’s why I wrote a book for overwhelmed homemakers–because that’s me some days and I have a heart to encourage women who feel the same.
With that said, I do have a pretty consistent routine on most days. Good time management keeps me sane and helps to get things accomplished. Because, let’s be honest, I am a bit forgetful and wouldn’t get much done if I didn’t have my routines.
My (Almost) Daily Routine
6 a.m. – Get up and write like crazy! (Unless we had a bad night, then I sleep in…)
7 a.m. – Quiet time until Claire wakes up for morning snuggles.
7:30 a.m. – Breakfast / Dishes
10 a.m – Free Time. (This is when I schedule appointments or play dates or spend intentional time with Claire by doing tot school, playing, and taking a walk. What we are doing depends on the day.)
12 p.m. – Lunch / Dishes
12:30 p.m. – Read books to Claire
1 p.m. – Work while Claire naps (Or on occasion I will do something more relaxing like watch Netflix or read a book.)
3 p.m. – Afternoon Routine (Whenever Claire gets up we snuggle, read books, eat a snack, play outside and finish any Cleaning Routines that didn’t get done in the morning and prep for dinner, if needed.)
4 p.m. – TV Time (Yes, I let my child watch television almost every day. This is usually the time of day mommy needs a re-charge. I often read a book or catch up on social media while snuggling with Claire on the couch. Some days I work during this time if I need to.)
5. p.m. – Free Time again! (I think it’s important to have blocks of unscheduled time during the day. We usually play outside until it is time to start making dinner and make sure the house is mostly picked up before Matt gets home.)
6 p.m. – Dinner / Dishes / Sweep Kitchen Floor / Breakfast Prep, if needed
7 p.m. – Evening Routine (Family Time, Claire’s Bedtime Routine, Devotions with Matt and then Free Time to spend quality time with Matt or get some more work done.)
10 p.m. – Bedtime!
Obviously not every day goes as smoothly as this. Some days at a lot fuller than others which often leads to chores not getting done that day. I have recently started dedicating at least one day (two, if I can!) to stay home. I almost never schedule anything on Mondays because it is often my catch-up day from a crazy (or super lazy) weekend. And I try to set aside Fridays for longer play dates with friends because it is my lightest cleaning day. However, I try to keep everything flexible enough to allow myself some wiggle room to avoid stressing myself out and to promote a peaceful home.
Well, there’s my day in a nutshell. I would love to read about some of your daily routines in a comment!
