A couple of months ago I wrote about Scripture memory strategies for children and how to choose Bible verses for little ones to memorize. In those posts I mentioned that I really like to use music to help my toddler easily memorize the Word of God. Since then I’ve had a few readers ask me to share my recommendations for Scripture songs. So, today I’m doing just that!
The CDs below are ones that we love and listen to often in my house or are on our wish list because I’ve heard good things about them.
Hidden in My Heart – I would probably consider these are the perfect “first Scripture songs” for little ones. Each CD in this three volume series is a gentle collection of Scripture-based lullabies with verse references woven into soothing traditional hymns and songs of faith. They are on my wish list!
Hide ‘Em in Your Heart – These are the CDs I grew up listening to and now my daughter is enjoying them! Both volumes have fun Scripture-based songs that will teach godly character and include songs such as “Do to Others”, “Trust in the Lord”, “Children, Obey Your Parents”, “Do Not Worry” ,”We Love Him”, and “The Fruit of the Spirit.”
Seeds Family Worship – I don’t know much about these CDs but have heard a lot good about them so I have them on my wish list as well. They are a compilation of Scripture songs that will get you grooving and memorizing the Bible. The entire series includes six CDs: Seeds of Courage, Seeds of Faith, Seeds of Praise, Seeds of Purpose, The Power of Encouragement, and Seeds of Character.
Songs for Saplings – These are another favorite in our home! These CDs have a more acoustic/folk music sound to them, which is really appealing to me and my daughter. The ABC volume is designed to teach your children the word of God as they study their alphabet..The 123 volume teaches little ones the word of God as they study their numbers. (Songs 1-13 are about numbers and songs 14-20 are about God’s creation of the universe and His rest on the Sabbath.)
That’s the list I’ve compiled so far. If you have a favorite CD that wasn’t mentioned, I would love it if you shared about it in a comment! We can always use more suggestions for our wish list. 🙂
Do you and your little ones listen to Scripture songs?
