Love as a Lifestyle + Thrive @ Home Link-Up

This is a slightly different kind of post than you are probably expecting today, but it’s something that’s been on my heart…

love never ends

During the month of February, when everyone is all excited about Valentine’s Day, it’s easy to get caught up in the hype of striving to love more and showing kindness to others. But what about when March rolls around? As we go about our daily routines, the drudgery of the mundane and stress of an often overly-filled schedule starts us on a downward spiral toward the same old attitude we had before.

Apathy.

Oh, how I despise that word. Probably because, if I’m honest, I struggle with it all too often. I allow my emotions cloud how I see people and dictate how I react toward them. I forget (or refuse) to be transformed by the renewing of my mind and fail to love (Romans 12:2). I fail to do the one thing that shows others that I am a disciple of Christ.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
-John 13:34-35

When we look at it that way, failing to love others is a pretty serious offense. Permitting ourselves to slack off in the love department is wrong and can ruin our testimony as Christians. And it’s something we are all guilty of. Every. Year.

But, it doesn’t have to be that way. We don’t have to take that road. We can make this year different. I want to make this year different. Don’t you?

Let’s made a commitment to keep love in the forefront of our minds longer than the month of February. Let’s strive to speak words of grace, perform acts of kindness and meditate on the Love Letter that we are called to live by. Let’s make Valentine’s Day last all year long by living a lifestyle of love. {Tweet This}

  1. Thanks so much Jenni for the linkup and for such a good post. I hope I don’t forget or get discouraged for intentionally doing special things for my husband when March rolls around. It is too easy to get caught in the emergency of life!!

      Judith, I agree that can be difficult to remain intentional. Life definitely get in the way sometimes! Along with love, I have been trying to remember the wonderful grace of God. As Christians, we do not stand in condemnation because His blood covers our short-comings. What a wonderful truth to hold on to for times we fail to love like Him! Thanks for your comment and sharing your heart today.

    A wonderful and appropriate message. In our society where everyone is so busy and so far apart it’s hard to practice true love for one another, but we so need to do it!

    I love this Jenni! My husband was asked to teach a short message at church last night (on you guessed it, love!) and the thing that stood out to me was that it is our MOST important job as Christians. I mean, I know this, but it can be so easy to forget!

    Thanks for hosting this link up! :-)

      Thanks for you comment, Becky! I think it’s one of those concepts that we hear about so often that we become desensitized to the message, which is really unfortunate. I have been attempting to look a Biblical truths with a fresh perspective instead of glossing over them because they are familiar. It can be difficult to do sometimes!
