Frugal Organizing Tips + Thrive @ Home Link-Up

A few days ago, I went in a decluttering frenzy! I get that way when the piles start taking over and I can’t stand looking at them anymore. Now that I’ve cleared some of our unwanted stuff out, I am trying to organize the items we are keeping. For me, this is the fun part.

However, as much as I love to organize, I really dislike spending a lot of money buying more boxes and such to store all of my stuff in. After decluttering, it sometimes seem counter-productive. The fact is, our homes do need to be well-organized and often that means spending a little money. But you don’t have to break the piggy bank to accomplish this goal!

Know what you need. Declutter/organize, measure, then buy!  In the past, there have been time when I didn’t take time to figure out exactly what I needed and ended up spending money on unnecessary items  (and wasted time) because I was in a rush to complete a project.

Buy Used. If you aren’t in a hurry to get a certain area perfectly organized, consider browsing garage sales and thrift stores.  These places are also great for finding storage containers for areas that don’t need an exact size.  For example, a basket for magazines to sit in a corner of your living room.

Repurpose what you already have. Obviously, this is my favorite option because it doesn’t require spending money at all!  There are so many wonderful ideas to re-using stuff around the house. Check out my Pinterest board for some of my favorite ideas!

All in all, saving money requires you to get a little creative… Or at least borrow someone else’s creative ideas! 😉

It always bothers me how much it can cost to organize things. Great tips. My favorite way to save is using freecycle and used stores. I would love if you would link up your post with us for Fabulously Frugal Thursday. This is information I think our readers could use.

For years I would go buy organizer containers each January. Now I try to get rid of so many things each January that I free up space and containers.
