I shared this on Periscope yesterday, but I thought I would write about it here also…
One of my favorite Bible passages about courage is found in Joshua. God reminded Joshua and the Israelites several times to be “strong and courageous” because He is with them.
“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:7-9
He was with them. And He is with us.
Oh, how often we need to remember that our Savior’s name is Emmanuel, God With Us. Our courage is found in Christ! When God calls us and leads us, we have no reason to fear because we can be confident that He is near.
A few years ago, my husband and I hosted a pastor from Trinidad in our home. As we were talking about missions and following God’s will, he said something that I really liked:
This simple, yet wise, rhyme serves as a great reminder that as we rely on God’s strength and follow Him in obedience, He will be faithful to provide for our every need and be with us wherever we are. What a tremendous promise that can truly fill our hearts with courage and joy!
In what situation do you need rely on the Lord for courage today?
