As homemakers, it is our responsibility to set the tone of our homes. As Christians, we must be diligent in striving to create cross-centered homes by being mindful of the Gospel in our daily lives. One of the ways I do this is to sing and listen to music with lyrics that are specifically about the death, burial and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Every morning, before or after our devotions, my daughter and I sing a few Bible songs. I almost always start off with “This is the Day” to remind us that God has given us a new day and we should rejoice in it. Then we sing a few of her favorite songs. (Right now we sing “I’ve Got the Joy, Joy, Joy” and “Jesus Loves Me” a lot). While most of these are not specifically about the Gospel message, they are easy for her to sing and help us focus our hearts and mind on Christ.
Throughout the day we listen to Pandora or CDs by my favorite Christian artists when we are making meals, doing chores or performing other tasks in our daily routines. I also sing hymns to her as she is trying to fall asleep at naptime and bedtime.
A Dozen of My Favorite Cross-Centered Songs
These are my personal favorites and some popular worship songs and hymns that specifically refer to the Gospel. While these are relevant to us at any time of the year, they are especially meaningful as we prepare to celebrate during the Easter season.
- Creed
- Glorious Day
- How Deep the Father’s Love for Us
- In Christ Alone
- It Is Well with My Soul
- Jesus Paid It All
- Lead Me to the Cross
- Love Crusified, Arose
- Once Again
- The Glory of the Cross
- The Wonderful Cross
- Why
If you would like to see music videos of these songs, you can view them on my YouTube playlist: Cross-Centered Worship.
Obviously, worship is more than just singing. We are to worship the Lord by striving to glorify Him in everything we do. However, I think music is a wonderful tool that helps us enter into an attitude of worship. (Reading the Bible helps too!)
I know my list is missing a lot of great songs, so I would love it if you shared your favorites. I will try to add them to my playlist when I have a chance!

Sharon, we had some technical difficulty with the blog hop. Sorry you couldn’t link-up when you visited the first time. It’s open now!
I immediately thought of “Lead Me to the Cross”, but I see you already have that one. It’s one of my favorites and always serves as a reminder that I need to keep going back to the cross. And sometimes? Sometimes I don’t willingly go to the cross… Sometime Jesus has to lead me there before I’ll stop my self-centered attempt at living long enough to look at it and be reminded that I cannot do life alone, without Him.
This is a great playlist! I think I’ll click over and listen to it before my little man wakes up. Thank you!

Yes! Such a great song… So glad we have a Shepherd that leads us, even when we are stubborn. Thanks for sharing your heart, Alana!
I love hymns and the stories behind them make their lyrics and tunes even more rich for me. Knowing that flesh and blood Christians have been where I am, and looked to God, is awesome.

I completely agree! Thank you for your comment.
“O the Blood” is my fav right now. Sung by Kari Jobe on the Gateway Worship album. A.MAZ.ING! Also love Christy Nockels on the Passion “Here for You” album singing “Carry Your Name”. Love your list, Jenni!

I will have to look those songs up, Jenni. I don’t know if I’m familiar with them. (Sometimes I have to hear the song because I recognize it). Thanks for sharing!
It was nice to hear Creed. But in my opinion no one can do it better than the writer/composer Rich Mullins. It’s a beautiful playlist that I am sure will take me through many housecleaning duties. Thank you so much.
Oh, yes… I enjoy Rich Mullins as well. I will have to add that version to the list when I get a chance… Thanks for sharing!
